The Green Man is a mythical character who is commonly found in churches. His face is usually covered in leaves. This leafy character is thought to be the God od Spring, symbolising fertility and signifying the cylce of new growth and death each year.

In addition to the many colourful masks in Strid Wood, there is one special Green Man at Bolton Abbey. Can you find him? He looks down from the roof of a very special building which was saved from Henry VIII.

The Green Man Trail is open everyday from 1st May to 2nd November 2008.

The route follows the Green Trial from the Cavendish Pavilion to the strid and returns via the Blue Trail. The whole route is accessible to pushchairs, however it is steep in places. From the Cavendish Pavilion to the Strid is accessible in a wheelchair. Dogs are welcome on a lead.
