Bolton Abbey Estate of 30, 000 acres lies at the southern entrance to the Yorkshire Dales National Park and contains five Sites of Special Scientific Interest. It is owned by the Chatsworth Settlement Trustees, a trust set up by the 11th Duke of Devonshire. The Trust was established to secure the long term preservation of Bolton Abbey for all whose livelihood depend upon it and for the many that enjoy visiting. Therefore, all revenue generated from the Estate's activities are reinvested in Bolton Abbey.
